FMJ. Full metal jacket. Steel core vs lead core.? - steel core fmj
7.62x54r cartridge with a core of hardened steel to reduce costs but also increase the penetration. If the purpose is the entry FMJ, why the U.S. army's main use of lead, instead of a steel core? Such are the advantages and disadvantages of the two and the core leadership of steel?

Lead is more effective in maintaining the power to shock. The kinetic energy of the ball is higher than the mass x velocity is greater than steel. The nuclei of lead contribute to the country to initiate grooved better than the steel cores. Center cores are hard against hard targets such as vehicles such as the subject. I do not know if the steel cores against human targets, it would be for the 7.62x54.
